The approach is designed to engage employees in the development of your business growth plan by connecting everyone to the purpose of the company, getting grounded in the current reality, collaborating on a step by step plan towards your vision, while creating a learning together culture along the way that fuels sustainable growth. It’s a highly collaborative and transparent approach to build a deep understanding of where the organization is going and why.
Who is it for?

Stage 1: Envisioning Success

Developing an aspirational vision of the future state of a company and a mission that describes how it will be achieved through actions guided by values, provides the framework for employees to come together in pursuit of a higher purpose. It starts with a deep understanding of customers and connects to every employee so they can visualize a future they see themselves in and are inspired to be a part of. This is the compass that will help people navigate growth and change together while maintaining alignment.

Stage 2: Establish Basecamp
Establish a shared understanding of the current state of the business, what the offerings are, and how they provide value to customers. Map out the activities that make up those offerings, the people, process, and technology used to accomplish those activities, and how the current business is performing. This provides the foundation to build on as the company grows, one step at a time.

Stage 3: Map the Route
Develop a plan to get from current state to future state, to guide actions, investments and behaviors that shape the culture. Start by establishing a planning horizon, then describe one step forward, the actions that need to be taken, the investments that align with those actions and owners for each. Developing a step-by-step plan will help maintain focus and accountability for the critical actions of today without getting overloaded with all the potential actions of the future.

Stage 4: Establish trail Rhythm
With the plan in hand, we need to establish the operating cadence that will keep everyone aligned and moving forward to deliver products and services to customers while working to transform and grow the company. This involves the daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly schedule of activities to communicate performance and progress towards goals, promote engagement and innovation, make decisions and align all stakeholders.

Stage 5: Fuel The Climb
Keeping the vision and purpose of the company at the forefront of every team and in conversations with key stakeholders provides the north star to navigate the twists and turns along the path. Creating a supportive environment with trust, respect and inclusion will foster the culture of engagement needed to maintain momentum. Clarifying purpose and the why behind it, empowering teams with autonomy and decision authority, and investing in continuous learning helps reinforce a growth and inclusion mindset for the company.

Stage 6: Rest & Renew
At the end of the planning cycle (typically annually), take a step back to assess performance vs. the plan. Did we do what we said we were going to do, do we understand the gaps and did we have a good process to make any course corrections necessary? Did we make progress towards our vision and did we demonstrate our values? Reflecting on progress towards company goals along with personal growth and development along the way for each person provides a chance to reset the baseline. As we reconfirm the vision and mission, that baseline then becomes the foundation for “Mapping the Route” for the next planning cycle, adjusting the trail rhythm as needed and refueling the next level climb.
